COVID-19 has created uncertainty and anxiety for many of us. So much of what has been familiar is changing. With our children and teens at home rather than in school, the added stress for them and parents can strain relationships. You know, when you start to get on each others’ last nerve!

At the same time, we have seen such resiliency and creativity from families, many of whom are slowing down and spending time with their children in a way that they found almost impossible before. Perhaps you have found that getting back to basics, like family game night and movie night or the whole family getting out to throw the football or shoot some hoops, has actually been of benefit to your relationship with your kids.

The physical distancing from others has been a challenge for so many. At the same time, here at Growth Works we believe that physical distancing does not mean isolation from others. This is a time when we need to bring our creativity to the table. Technology, of course, helps tremendously. Parents need to rethink important topics in the family, such as “screen time” which at the moment may be one of the few ways teenagers and children can connect with friends, at least until we return to a more normal routine. Trying to find that balance between allowing your teen to spend more screen time to connect with friends, yet keeping the screen time in check, can be challenging.

We will be using our blog section here to keep in contact with you, sharing whatever tips we can to help you get through these challenging times. One resource we found helpful is on the World Health Organization web page, entitled “Healthy Parenting.” This guide provides some information you might find helpful! Check it out:
